Is setting up a new email address the best way to get rid of a spam problem?

I think I foolishly gave my email address to a site promising a $250 gift card and now I'm getting a lot of bulk email (spam). I set up a new yahoo email address with the possibility of switching addresses, but it'll be a pain. Should I wait and see what happens or proceed with changing over to the new address?

I had to create a new address because I had the same problem. Now recently I did it again. Because whatever site I signed up with and gave my Email to had third parties sending me emails. I started putting them in the spam block list and some how I was still receiving stuff. Until recently I noticed whoever this person is he was changing his email address. It looked like this xlfbmkjjifd@ whatever.com then he would change it to xlfbmkjiifdas@whatever.com. So ever time I put they're email on the block list, they would change it so I got fed up and got a new email address. Now more care full than ever. Good luck to you!
Reply:i'd change the address. once one spam company gets your e-mail address, they will sell it to another company, who will sell it to another company, etc, etc, etc...

there are some sites offering gift cards that don't spam the heck out of you. like this one. http://get-your-free-gift-cards.blogspot...

the company that runs that site is very much against spam. i have had good luck with them in the past.
Reply:Yahoo has excellent spam blocking tools.

I am assuming all of us on this forum are Yahoos.

You also should be using an anti virus protection. Most all of them come with spam block.
Reply:dont use yahoo for ur mail use live (never give it to some1 who u dont want mailing u and then u solve ur problem thats what i do
Reply:well you could change the id a bit %26amp;post the new address to all your contacts
